Back to the Carolinas: 10 Lessons from my mothers

                         Love sometimes need no explanation
-Unknown

I ' m blessed to have been raised by my mom and her sisters. I consider them all my mothers. They all have taught me so many things but here are 10 lessons I thought of at the moment:

  • no matter what happens, praise the LORD!

My Mom and her entire family are devout Christians. I spent a majority of my childhood at Church for bible study, Sunday school, Youth retreat, Services, etc.. No matter how stormy life seems, my mom and her family always and still praise the Lord.

  • it's okay to start over again. AGAIN and AGAIN

My family left everything behind in the Dem. Rep, of Congo and started over in the U.S. But life is never easy. Over the years they all faced storms that made them start over again, again, and again. Yet, no one gave up or complained. They just moved forward.
  • the importance of FAMILY
Every week, every weekend, every holiday, and every party; no matter what, they are always together. Even at times where they had disagreements, they would be with each other. There have never been a day where my Mom has not spoken on the phone with her sisters.
  • giving without expectation
My Mothers give without hesitation. An outfit, food, purse, shoes or a place to stay.. they just give, asking for nothing in return.
  • it's okay to be unhappy about how an event unfold but take RESPONSIBILITY for your actions
  • home economics
I learned how to cook, clean, do laundry and take care of the house from my Mothers.
  • to LOVE unconditionally
My Mothers love unconditionally. They love without expectation. Love with respect. Love at all time. Love without ceasing.
  • to forgive
It's no secret that I struggle with forgiving others but my Mothers forgive people and actually hang out with them. Even those who caused them harm. Watching them forgive and forget constantly sets a good example of what forgiveness truly means.
  • how to pray
Every morning, night, and before each meal or each drive, my Mothers always prayed. No matter the season. They prayed honestly; one time I was asked to lead a prayer and I got nervous, But my Mom pulled me aside and said, "when you pray, it's about You and God. Forget those around you and just tell God what's in your heart."
  • the importance of looking your best when leaving the house/taking care of your appearance.

My Mothers always look great every time they leave the house. Me, in the other hand, I don't care. But my Mom explained to me that not everyone knows me or will get a chance to know me personally but they will remember how I looked.

God has been great to me. One of the millions ways He has showed me His love is by giving me an AMAZING group of women as Mothers.

Happy Belated Mother's day to you guys and to all the Mothers.

~xoxo
