Random Thought: Modesty

Decide what makes you happy and fight for it

I grew up going to church. I liked it then and love it now. While attending numerous Bible study classes, Church services and Christian conferences, the topic of modesty has always been raised and taught. As Christian women we should always dress modestly. Some preachers even said that Christian women should be modest in their clothing as to not lead their brothers in Christ to sin. While others have said that Christian women should dress modestly because Christ commanded us to do so.

For me, modesty goes hand in hand with context. Yes, the Holy Bible commands us both men and women to be modest even though some preachers only focus on women but that's a different story for another day.

What I mean by saying that modesty goes hand in hand with context is that I dress according to where I'm going and who I will be around. For example, if I'm going to a beach trip with my family, I'll wear a vintage swimsuit or one piece swimsuit. If I'm going to a beach trip with my friends, I'll wear a two piece bathing suit or something along those lines. When I go to a funeral, I'll wear an outfit appropriate for a funeral, etc.

Modesty also has a lot to do with how one conduct themselves. One can dress modest and yet behave immodest. Appearance means nothing if the behavior does not follow. Thus, one must be modest in clothing and behavior.

Do I dress modest at all the time? No. I dress according to context. I know that God knows my heart, intentions and behaviors. I try my best each day to live my life according to His guidance and when judgment day comes, I'll face Him and answer to Him alone.
